What changes on July 4th 2020

Jun 23, 2020

Here is the detail on what will be open and what you can and can't do on Saturday July 4th 2020

What will be open?

Hairdressers, Pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes will be allowed to reopen their doors, as can museums, galleries and cinemas as long as they take precautions against coronavirus

Do I still need to keep two-metre apart?
No. The government is launching “one-metre plus”. Meaning that you will be able to be in scenarios where you cannot keep two metres apart as long as there are mitigating factors involved. Therefore you can be one metre apart from someone on a train or bus — but you will have to wear a face mask. In pubs and restaurants the use of screens can be used to solve the distance issue.

Will I be able to go to a pub or restaurant with friends?
Yes, but pubs will only be allowed to provide table service you can not stand at the bar. If you are sitting indoors, you can only meet members of one other household.

Will I have to give my name and address?
Yes. You will have to give your details on arrival and the details will have to be kept in case someone is later identified as having Covid-19. If this happens the details will be given to the NHS test and trace service.

Will gyms and swimming pools reopen?
No. Indoor gyms, play areas and all swimming pools are to stay closed.

What about cinemas, theatres and concert halls?
These will all reopen, but live performances will be banned. Theatres and concert halls will be allowed to screen past performances and serve food and drink.

Can my friends come over to my house?
Yes. You can invite people from one other household into your home at one time as long as you stay two metres apart. There are no limits on the number of households you can meet as long as they don’t all come at once.

Will people be allowed to stay overnight?
Yes, but only people from one other household at any one time.

Can I go on holiday?
Hotels, B&Bs, holiday lets and campsites are allowed to re-open on July 4 and you will be able to spend the night outside your permanent residence for the first time.

You can stay in the same holiday home as people from one other household, but no more..

What will remain closed?
Nightclubs, bowling alleys, skating rinks and indoor play areas will still be closed, as will beauty salons, nail bars and massage parlours, where maintaining even a one-metre social distance is impossible.

What are about outdoor gatherings?
There is no change. Six people from six different households can meet outside at the same time. Two households, regardless of how many people are in them, will also be able to meet. However two-metre social distancing will remain in place.
